“PM Denounces Briefing Against Streeting Amid Labour Dispute”

Keir Starmer has emphasized that there has been no official briefing against Wes Streeting from Downing Street, following the recent dispute within the Labour party on Wednesday.

Addressing the situation, the Prime Minister held discussions with his key advisors on Thursday regarding the allegations made against Wes Streeting of orchestrating a challenge against him.

In response to the accusations, Wes Streeting refuted the claims, prompting the Prime Minister to condemn any form of briefing against ministers as “entirely inappropriate.” He reiterated his long-standing stance against such actions and expressed his determination to address any instances of misconduct.

When asked about potential consequences for those responsible for the briefing, the Prime Minister asserted his commitment to taking action against any individual involved in briefing against ministers, maintaining the high standards expected within his administration.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence in his chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney, amidst speculations linking him to the alleged briefing incident.

Acknowledging the need to fulfill the promised changes outlined in the election manifesto, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of delivering on the pledges to regain the support of his party members.

Reports circulating close to the Prime Minister suggested that Wes Streeting was contemplating a leadership challenge after the upcoming Budget announcement. However, the Health Secretary dismissed these claims, accusing the Prime Minister’s supporters of attempting to undermine him.

During a visit to the Paddington Community Diagnostic Centre in Liverpool, Wes Streeting brushed off questions from the media regarding the recent negative remarks against him, considering them as past events.

He declined to comment on the future of Morgan McSweeney, the No 10 chief of staff, who has faced criticism from some members of the Labour party for the fallout resulting from the alleged attempt to deter potential leadership contenders.

Regarding an apology received from the Prime Minister, the Health Secretary redirected the focus to the positive developments in the healthcare sector, emphasizing the government’s efforts in improving NHS services and addressing critical issues.

When queried directly about Morgan McSweeney, the Health Secretary highlighted the positive news of decreasing NHS waiting lists, suggesting a collective satisfaction within the government on the progress being made.
