“Survey Reveals Strong Public Support for UK’s Net Zero Goals”

Nigel Farage faces a setback as recent polling indicates strong public backing for the UK’s net zero goals. In a YouGov survey, 60% expressed support for the country’s green commitments, while only 25% opposed them.

Reform UK has pledged to discard Britain’s climate targets, denied the existence of a climate crisis, and advocated for a return to fracking. Kemi Badenoch has also promised to abandon the UK Government’s climate commitments.

During COP 30 in Belem, Brazil, the Prime Minister criticized both Reform UK and the Tories, emphasizing the importance of wholeheartedly embracing net zero to prevent adverse impacts on energy costs and national security.

Support for net zero commitments was notably high among 2024 Green voters at 86%, with 76-79% of Labour and Lib Dem supporters also favoring the initiative. Despite Theresa May enshrining the net zero commitment into law in 2019, only 48% of Tories back the target, with lukewarm enthusiasm.

While Tories mainly expressed a tendency to support net zero rather than strong endorsement, 37% were against it. In contrast, a majority of Reform UK voters opposed net zero, with only 23% in favor.

The survey of 2083 adults revealed that 39% believe the government is not doing enough to combat climate change. Among net zero supporters, 57% feel insufficient action is being taken. However, just 2% of Britons believe the UK will achieve its net zero pledge, indicating skepticism about reaching the target by 2050.

In response, a Labour spokesperson highlighted the benefits of clean energy for energy security, lower bills, and job creation. They criticized opponents for potentially endangering clean energy jobs and burdening households and businesses with higher bills.

The Labour source criticized Nigel Farage’s stance on net zero as detrimental to workers and warned that Reform’s energy policies could jeopardize clean energy jobs and escalate costs. In contrast, Labour aims to reduce energy bills for six million families this winter while promoting clean, homegrown power to create jobs and ensure sustainable cost reductions.
