A British woman, visiting Turkey for breast implants, has turned to social media asking for prayers following a frightening earthquake experience. Known as @keepingupwithcourts on TikTok, Courtney shared a video after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit the Balikesir region, expressing the intensity of the situation with thundering and lightning.

Buildings collapsed in Sindirgi, causing injuries as panic spread throughout the area. The earthquake’s impact reached Istanbul, over 200 miles away. Courtney, bewildered by the experience, mentioned the earthquake’s magnitude and its destructive consequences in a subsequent video.

Expressing concern for safety amidst severe weather conditions, she emphasized the challenges of being in the midst of the natural disaster and the uncertainty of their flight back home. She humorously added that she did not spend money on breast surgery to perish in an earthquake and highlighted her responsibility towards her child.

The earthquake struck at 1.048pm local time, with subsequent aftershocks and structural damages reported. The region had already suffered from a previous earthquake resulting in casualties. Despite injuries from falls due to panic, no fatalities were confirmed, and assessments were ongoing.

Authorities opened up shelters due to stormy conditions, offering refuge to those afraid to return to their homes. Turkey’s susceptibility to earthquakes due to its location on fault lines poses a constant threat to its residents, with recent fatal incidents in August underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
