Emma Raducanu has spoken out after being selected to represent Great Britain at the upcoming United Cup in January. The champion of the US Open will be teaming up with Jack Draper for the mixed-gender event.
Both players had to end their seasons early, with Raducanu withdrawing for medical reasons and Draper dealing with an arm injury. This will be the first time the duo competes in the United Cup, as Raducanu opted out of participating in the Billie Jean King Cup to focus on individual events in Asia.
Despite the challenges she faced during the Asian swing, Raducanu expressed her enthusiasm about playing for Team GB alongside Draper. She mentioned her excitement to debut in the United Cup and experience a new tournament format while representing her country in Australia.
On the other hand, Draper shared his excitement about returning to the court for the United Cup. He expressed his eagerness to find out if Team GB would compete in Perth or Sydney, as it would be a fresh experience for him in Australia.
Raducanu had a tough time during the Asian swing following her US Open victory, facing health issues and early exits in tournaments. She had to withdraw from her last two events of the year due to health concerns, but she will have time to recover before the United Cup starts on January 2.
Meanwhile, Draper was sidelined due to an arm injury after Wimbledon and only made a brief appearance at the US Open before pulling out due to an arm issue. He is expected to make his comeback at the UTS London exhibition event, while Raducanu will have an exhibition match against Amanda Anisimova in Miami.
After their respective warm-up events, Raducanu and Draper will kick off their 2026 seasons at the United Cup before heading to the Australian Open.
