The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a strong warning regarding a harmful virus causing two severe symptoms and provided NHS guidance on preventing its spread. In a recent message on Twitter, the UKHSA described norovirus as “unpleasant for everyone.”
The alert emphasizes the importance of taking steps to reduce the spread if one contracts the virus. Individuals experiencing diarrhea, vomiting, or general illness are advised to stay at home for at least 48 hours after their symptoms have resolved.
Frequent hand washing with soap and warm water is recommended, along with laundering any contaminated clothing or bedding at a high temperature. The UKHSA also notes that other symptoms may include fever, headache, and muscle aches.
Further information on the NHS website highlights the rapid and easy spread of diarrhea and vomiting. It suggests staying home from school or work until free of symptoms for at least two days and avoiding contact with others until feeling better if experiencing a high temperature or inability to carry out regular activities.
In addition to the previously mentioned advice, it is advised to regularly clean surfaces like toilet seats, flush handles, taps, and door handles to prevent the spread of the virus. Avoid sharing towels, cutlery, or utensils, and refrain from using swimming pools until 48 hours after symptoms have disappeared.
In case of severe symptoms, individuals are encouraged to contact the appropriate medical services promptly.
