“UK Households Embrace Heating Solutions for Winter Warmth”

As winter approaches, over 11 million households in the UK are gearing up to combat rising energy costs by investing in heating solutions, a recent survey by Uswitch has revealed. The study indicates that 40% of Brits are planning to purchase warm clothing and appliances to stay cozy during the colder months. Among the popular choices are electric blankets, fleece-lined throws, and thermal wear for added warmth.

Interestingly, a previous survey by Uswitch found that 2 million households were prepared to brave the winter without turning on their central heating. The top choice for staying warm was hot water bottles, with 61% of households already owning one. Thermal clothing such as leggings, socks, and base layers followed closely, being owned by 48% of homes.

Heated slippers emerged as a surprisingly popular choice, with 30% of households using them. These slippers are designed with built-in heating elements in the sole or lining, or with microwaveable gel inserts. Additionally, around 30% of households utilize electric blankets, which are cost-effective to run, while 38% rely on weighted throws for warmth.

Disposable hand warmers are already owned by 17% of households, while 16% use electric or rechargeable hand warmers, and heated gloves are favored by 10% of homes. Thermal curtains are present in 30% of homes, draught excluders in 40%, and 7% are planning to purchase one before winter sets in.

To maintain warmth efficiently, 26% of households utilize radiator reflectors, which help bounce heat back into rooms. Uswitch energy spokesman Will Owen advises households to explore alternative heating solutions like electric blankets, heated slippers, and gloves to stay warm without relying solely on central heating.

Owen emphasizes the importance of keeping homes between 18 and 21 degrees for health and comfort. To save on energy costs, he suggests reducing draughts, opting for thicker curtains, and adding insulation where possible. He also encourages consumers to explore fixed energy deals and seek support from energy suppliers if concerned about winter energy bills.
