Tesco is in the process of actively evaluating a significant adjustment to its Clubcard program. The Tesco Clubcard provides members with discounted prices on selected items in stores and enables shoppers to accumulate points that can be converted into supermarket vouchers.
Previously restricted to individuals over 18, the loyalty scheme has been criticized by Which? for being discriminatory towards younger customers, potentially hindering their ability to save money. Tesco has now announced plans to extend Clubcard membership to individuals under 18 within the current year.
A spokesperson from Tesco stated, “We are currently reviewing Tesco Clubcard with the aim of making it accessible to individuals under 18 this year.” Reena Sewraz, Which? Retail Editor, emphasized the importance of access to the Tesco Clubcard for shoppers facing financial challenges, citing significant savings potential.
Tesco shoppers earn one Clubcard point for every £1 spent on groceries both in-store and online, or for every two liters of fuel purchased at Tesco petrol stations.
In another development, Nationwide Building Society has disclosed its decision to permit electronic signing of mortgage deeds in England and Wales without the presence of a witness. This move follows the Land Registry’s acceptance of electronic signatures as part of the mortgage application process, aiming to expedite property transactions.
Henry Jordan, Nationwide’s group director of mortgages, emphasized the organization’s commitment to streamlining the home-buying process and alleviating the associated stress for homebuyers.
Additionally, a state pension age increase from 66 to 67 is set to commence this April, gradually transitioning over the period leading up to March 6, 2028. The initial group affected by the age rise are individuals born between April 6, 1960, and May 5, 1960, who will need to wait until they are 66 and one month old to claim their state pension.
