A teenager was hospitalized after being diagnosed with a lung disease believed to be caused by his pet parrots.
Kenny Kajan, a 13-year-old aspiring breeder and biologist, had four tropical birds as pets. However, due to his illness, he now has to avoid birds in public and even refrain from using a feather pillow.
Kenny’s mother, Iveta, revealed that her son developed flu-like symptoms, including coughing and high temperatures, months before being diagnosed with hypersensitivity pneumonitis, a rare lung condition.
This disease is typically seen in older individuals who have had prolonged exposure to birds or certain chemicals. In Kenny’s case, it is suspected that living with his four pet parrots since the age of nine led to his condition.
After a challenging period of uncertainty and multiple medical consultations, doctors advised the family to part with their beloved parrots to safeguard Kenny’s health. Despite the emotional attachment to the birds, Iveta emphasized the importance of prioritizing Kenny’s well-being.
Kenny’s love for birds started early, with his first pet parrot, a cockatiel named Pikachu, becoming a significant part of his daily routine. However, his health scare prompted the family to take action and focus on creating a safe environment for Kenny to recover.
Following his diagnosis, Kenny received treatment and had to stay away from the birds until their home was thoroughly cleaned. To support Kenny’s ongoing health needs, the family initiated a GoFundMe campaign to ensure a clean and safe living space for him.
As the family navigates this challenging time, they remain hopeful for Kenny’s recovery and are grateful for the outpouring of support from their community.
