Kira Cousins shocked her friends and family when she revealed that her supposed newborn daughter, Bonnie-Leigh Joyce, was actually a lifelike reborn doll. The 22-year-old from Airdrie, Scotland, confessed on Instagram that she had deceived everyone by faking a pregnancy for nine months with the help of a fake baby bump.
Despite the elaborate charade, Kira managed to maintain the illusion by sharing updates on social media, including videos of her “baby” kicking and a gender-reveal party complete with pink confetti. Even her boyfriend, believed to be the baby’s father, was unaware of the ruse and generously gifted her a £1,000 pram.
The deception reached a peak when Kira pretended to give birth to a baby girl with a heart condition, claiming she had delivered the child alone. However, suspicions arose when the baby did not cry, and Kira prevented anyone from touching her by citing recent medical check-ups. Eventually, the truth came to light, leading Kira to acknowledge her mistake and express regret for the hurt she caused.
In a public apology on Instagram, Kira admitted fabricating ultrasound scans, messages, and an entire birth story, portraying the doll as a real baby. She acknowledged her actions as a result of her poor mental state but recognized the gravity of her deception and the trust she had broken.
While the exact moment of revelation to her partner remains unclear, Kira’s friend Neave McRobert disclosed that she discovered the truth after noticing all pictures and videos of the doll had been deleted. Neave confronted the baby’s father, who confirmed the doll’s true nature. The extent of the deception left many shocked and betrayed, with Kira’s elaborate charade unraveling as the truth emerged.
