Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri experienced a setback in their Formula One careers as they were disqualified from the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Norris finished behind Max Verstappen, and Piastri secured fourth place initially. The disqualification came after both McLaren drivers failed post-race technical inspections, revealing that the planks under their cars were below the required 9mm thickness by the end of the race.
The discovery of the illegally low ride height led to their disqualification from the 22nd race of the 2025 season, equalizing Verstappen’s points with Piastri and setting up a thrilling finale to the season. The reigning champion is now just 24 points behind Norris in the championship standings.
This disqualification marked the first for Norris and Piastri in their F1 careers, adding them to the list of drivers on the grid who faced similar penalties. Notably, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were disqualified earlier this year in another race. Sky has announced a price reduction for its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, offering more than 1,400 live matches across various leagues.
Leclerc faced troubles in China for being under the minimum weight, and Gasly encountered a similar issue. Nico Hulkenberg experienced his first disqualification in his 15-year F1 career in Bahrain due to excessive skid block wear. George Russell’s victory in the Belgian Grand Prix was nullified due to his car being underweight.
Additionally, Esteban Ocon faced disqualification seven years ago, and recently, he exceeded the fuel mass flow limit during a race, resulting in his disqualification.
