A 24-year-old US Marine named William Richard Roy, stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, has been apprehended for allegedly abducting a 12-year-old girl from a park and spending a night with her at a hotel, leading to charges of attempted sexual assault. The incident transpired when Roy flew from North Carolina to Chicago, where he met the girl in a park before traveling to a hotel for the night. Subsequently, they took a Greyhound bus to Durham, North Carolina, where Roy was arrested on Sunday.
The girl’s disappearance was reported by her grandmother to the police last Friday, and she was found safe upon Roy’s arrest. Roy is facing charges related to enticing and transporting a minor across state lines for inappropriate sexual purposes. The FBI got involved after Hammond, Indiana, police received the report of the missing girl, discovering that Roy had taken an Uber to Hammond to meet the girl at a park.
Following their meeting in Hammond, Roy and the girl traveled by Uber to Chicago, where they stayed overnight at a hotel before boarding a bus to Durham, North Carolina, where the arrest occurred upon their arrival. According to a statement from the Indianapolis FBI, Roy was arrested in Durham, North Carolina, after allegedly traveling from North Carolina to Indiana to meet, kidnap, and attempt to sexually assault the 12-year-old girl.
The charges against Roy include enticement of a minor for illicit sexual activity, transportation of a minor for illicit sexual activity, and interstate travel with intent to engage in sexual acts with a minor. The investigation, initiated on October 25, 2025, focused on Roy’s actions, where he flew to Chicago, met the girl in Hammond, and later traveled with her to Durham. The FBI, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, successfully took Roy into custody and ensured the child’s safe recovery.
The FBI emphasizes that the investigation is ongoing and acknowledges the cooperation of law enforcement partners in swiftly resolving the case to ensure the safety of the child.
