Homes seeking TV viewing options without monthly fees now have an expanded array of choices. Initially introduced in 2024, Freely emerged as a service offering live channel access through broadband connectivity. Initially, this service was limited to select new TV models, but in the last 18 months, the availability of Freely has expanded to include brands like Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp. Previously, individuals interested in accessing live and on-demand content through Freely had to purchase a new television set.
A recent development by Manhattan’s technology team has introduced a new Freely-powered set-top box named Aero 4K, designed to bring this service to existing TVs in households. The Aero 4K device provides instant access to over 60 live channels and on-demand content, all without the need for a costly subscription.
Apart from the free content, the Aero 4K box offers additional features such as voice search, personalized viewing recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the capability to pause live programming. Users who have subscriptions to streaming services like Disney+ and Netflix can also access these apps through the box.
Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K has gained popularity among consumers. Currys is the first UK retailer to offer the Manhattan Aero 4K, and the latest update indicates that the product is currently out of stock. According to Currys, the device quickly sold out but will be restocked soon.
Interested buyers can register their email on Currys’ website to receive alerts when the Aero 4K becomes available again. Additionally, other retailers like Amazon and John Lewis are expected to start selling the device in the near future.
Upon restocking, the Aero 4K will compete with devices like Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, all of which eliminate the need for traditional aerials or dishes by streaming shows, sports, and movies online. Transitioning to streaming services offers benefits like easy installation without requiring a technician’s visit and frequent software updates.
The TV landscape is evolving rapidly, with Freely reporting a user base exceeding one million. This trend is likely to continue as more viewers abandon traditional viewing methods in favor of streaming options.
