A woman in Ravenswood, Australia, was recently attacked by a magpie, leaving her with severe injuries. Marcela Montalva, who had moved to the area from Chile on a working holiday visa, found herself in a dangerous situation while riding her bike to the post office. The magpie attack caused her to lose control of the bike, leading to a hard fall and injuries to the left side of her face.

Montalva, who had big dreams of exploring Australia’s landscapes and culture, never expected such a traumatic incident. The attack resulted in multiple fractures to her cheekbone and a rare neck bone fracture. She was airlifted to Townsville University Hospital for urgent medical care due to the remote location of the incident.

Despite being fortunate to survive, Montalva now requires facial reconstructive surgery to restore her ability to eat and speak properly. Unfortunately, her travel insurance has refused to cover the medical expenses, citing a technicality regarding the absence of a helmet during the incident.

In response to the financial challenge, Montalva has raised approximately $12,000 (AUD) through a crowdfunding campaign to cover the costs of her necessary medical procedures. Reflecting on the unexpected turn of events, she expressed disbelief at the severity of the accident caused by a bird attack.

The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the importance of being prepared for unforeseen circumstances.
