Zara Tolley, a key figure in a tragic love triangle, recounted the harrowing moment when her ex-partner fatally stabbed her new boyfriend with a kitchen knife as she attempted to intervene.
Michael James, aged 45, took the life of Bradley Hollis, aged 35, in a violent altercation in March of this year. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison for manslaughter. Zara disclosed that she witnessed the dreadful event at their shared residence in Sheffield, despite her breakup with James the previous year. The fatal incident unfolded as James, consumed by jealousy over Hollis dating Zara, reached a breaking point one night in March.
Having been in a relationship with James for a decade, Zara revealed that despite existing issues, they were set to marry in August 2024. However, during Christmas 2023, she met Hollis and their friendship blossomed into a romantic relationship.
Following a night out in April 2024, Zara and Hollis became intimate. Zara admitted to mishandling the situation by not ending things with James before pursuing a relationship with Hollis. She expressed her love for Hollis and her decision to call off the wedding with James, who had displayed little interest in her and had voiced his disinterest in marriage.
Amid escalating jealousy, James sent threatening messages to Zara, warning her to keep Hollis away from their children. On the fateful night of the assault, James allegedly struck Zara and physically attacked her before Hollis intervened, leading to a fatal confrontation.
As paramedics attempted to save Hollis, he tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Bodycam footage captured the moment James was apprehended by police officers after being found hiding in a shed.
During James’ sentencing at Sheffield Crown Court, Judge Graham Reeds KC remarked that James’ actions stemmed from a mix of jealousy and concern over Hollis visiting their home. The judge highlighted the profound loss felt by Hollis’ loved ones and emphasized the irreplaceable void left by his untimely death.
