“Hurricane Melissa Unleashes Havoc in Jamaica”

Newly released footage showcases the immense power of Hurricane Melissa as it wreaked havoc on numerous residences in Jamaica with biblical-strength winds.

The video, posted by Ground Force Humanitarian Aid on Facebook, has garnered over 911,000 views, capturing the world’s attention as one of the most formidable storms in history hits the island.

In the footage, fierce winds pummel a coastal community, showing hurricane gusts ripping through streets and sending debris flying through the air. The scenes depict cars and houses engulfed by floodwaters while locals navigate chest-deep storm surges amidst the ongoing hurricane onslaught.

In the aftermath of the catastrophic weather event, Jamaican authorities have declared the region a disaster zone, with emergency teams striving to reach individuals trapped by the floods.

The video was shared accompanied by a sobering message from the aid organization, stating their deployment of SAFE Camp equipment to establish a secure base for operational teams, urging for prayers for safety as they navigate the unknown.

Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on Monday, with wind speeds reaching 185mph, resulting in at least seven fatalities, destruction of homes, isolation of communities, and widespread flooding.

Referred to as the “storm of the century,” Hurricane Melissa fell just 5mph short of being the most intense hurricane ever recorded over the Atlantic Ocean.

Prior to its arrival, the Jamaican government enforced evacuations in high-risk zones, shut down all airports, and advised residents to seek shelter in the face of the impending storm.

The US National Hurricane Center cautioned about the formidable winds at the hurricane’s eye, capable of causing complete structural collapse.

Despite Kingston being outside the hurricane’s direct path, the city witnessed deserted streets as heavy rainfall and flying debris created an eerie atmosphere. Throughout the island, anxious inhabitants sought refuge in churches, schools, and community shelters.

Despite evacuation mandates, authorities express concerns that many individuals have disregarded safety warnings.

Meteorologists predict that Hurricane Melissa, the most potent storm in Jamaican history, could unleash even greater destruction as it heads towards Cuba. Nearly 900,000 residents in Cuba’s eastern provinces have been instructed to evacuate, with the US Navy relocating personnel from Guantanamo Bay and repositioning warships out of the hurricane’s trajectory.

The United Nations World Food Programme has pre-positioned 450 metric tons of emergency food supplies in neighboring Haiti in anticipation of the crisis, acknowledging that it falls short of the typical requirements for such emergencies.
