Alex Simms, a former corporate events professional, was offered an early mammogram at 46 as part of a local trial focusing on younger women. To her surprise, the mammogram revealed an invasive ductal carcinoma in her left breast.
Reflecting on her journey, Alex, now 54 and known as La, expressed gratitude for the experience despite its challenges. She shared, “I would go through it all again because it led me to a happier life today.”
Having no family history of cancer and feeling unconcerned due to breastfeeding her children, Alex did not anticipate the diagnosis. Following additional tests prompted by the initial mammogram, doctors informed her and her husband, Jason, a TV executive, of the breast cancer discovery, likely at stage 2.
The news came as a shock to Alex, who recounted the moment her world fell apart upon learning the depth of the cancer. She acknowledged that without the early mammogram, she might not have detected the cancer in time for effective treatment.
Following successful treatment including a lumpectomy and radiotherapy, Alex received a clean bill of health. She realized that the cancer journey in 2017 not only cured her physically but also prompted a profound transformation in her life.
Reevaluating her priorities and lifestyle, Alex recognized the need to address underlying emotional issues that may have contributed to her health challenges. She embarked on a journey of self-care, exploring techniques like lymphatic drainage and complementary therapies to improve her well-being.
Empowered by her healing journey, Alex established a successful business named Lala Loves, offering treatments and retreats. Her ambition to support cancer survivors led her to create a podcast, “Cancer Cured Me,” where individuals share their stories of resilience and transformation.
Encouraging others to prioritize their well-being, Alex emphasized, “You don’t have to wait for a health crisis to make positive changes in your life. The time for change is now.”
