In response to dropping temperatures and rising living costs, the Department for Work and Pensions plans to reopen three seasonal benefit programs in November to assist households during the winter months. With no bank holidays scheduled in November, standard benefit payments such as Universal Credit are expected to be processed as usual.
Individuals expecting DWP benefits on a bank holiday or weekend will likely receive their payments on the preceding working day. For example, if you anticipate your PIP payment on Saturday, November 15, it should arrive on Friday, November 14 instead.
Benefit payments in November are typically disbursed based on the date of initial receipt. Payments like Attendance Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, and Pension Credit are issued every four weeks from the first payment date, while Universal Credit payments are distributed on a fixed monthly day.
Certain benefits, such as State Pension and Maternity Allowance, allow recipients to choose between monthly or weekly payments. State Pension payments occur every four weeks, with the payment date determined by the recipient’s National Insurance number.
Furthermore, in November, households will start receiving additional funds from the DWP as three winter benefit schemes are reintroduced:
Winter Fuel payments, ranging from £100 to £300, will be provided to qualifying households in a one-time payment. Eligible individuals are expected to receive these payments in November or December 2025.
Most eligible recipients automatically receive the Winter Fuel Payment. Eligibility criteria can be verified on the Gov.uk website.
Another benefit, offering a £150 discount on electricity bills, is automatically applied for eligible recipients. This scheme commences at the end of October and should be automatically deducted from the bill unless the recipient is in Scotland and on a low income, in which case they must contact their energy supplier. Further details can be found on the Gov.uk website.
Starting on November 1, 2025, a DWP benefit program will run until March 31, 2026, providing £25 to eligible households in areas where temperatures are forecasted or recorded as zero degrees or lower for seven consecutive days.
The Gov.uk website offers postcode checkers to help individuals determine if their area experienced cold enough weather to qualify for Cold Weather Payments. Payments are typically processed automatically within 14 working days following the cold weather period.
