A Disney cruise offers Broadway-style entertainment, character meet-and-greets, and spectacular fireworks at sea, making it a dream holiday for many children. However, a tragic incident occurred when a young girl fell overboard after her mother asked her to pose for a photo.
The distressing event took place on June 29 as the cruise ship was returning from the Bahamas to Florida. Passengers witnessed the emergency unfold as crew members swiftly launched a rescue boat into the sea upon hearing the ‘MOB port side’ distress call, indicating a person overboard.
The girl’s father courageously dove in to rescue his daughter, keeping her afloat for 20 minutes until they were safely retrieved. Witnesses praised him as a hero, applauding as the rescue team brought them back on board.
Months later, authorities revealed that the girl fell into the ocean while posing for a photo near a porthole at her mother’s request. The mother had mistakenly assumed the porthole had a protective covering, leading to the tragic accident.
Although the detective recommended charges, the state attorney decided against prosecution, deeming the mother’s actions negligent but not criminally liable. In a separate incident, parents from the UK faced fines for taking their children out of school for a Disney cruise, adding unexpected costs to their celebratory trip.
