A dental procedure gone wrong has left a woman terrified of visiting a dentist ever again. Sadie Hobson, aged 47, is experiencing constant pain and feels too self-conscious to show her teeth after what she describes as the destruction of her mouth during a dental treatment.
What was supposed to be a simple procedure to replace two missing teeth turned into a nightmare for Sadie. Instead of the expected two implants, she alleges that her dentist unnecessarily drilled into four healthy teeth, leading to receding gums, persistent food entrapment, and a significant blow to her self-esteem.
Sadie expressed her distress, stating, “Eating fruits or hard foods is painful, and I’m always cautious when biting or eating. I now conceal my smile and feel embarrassed in public due to my teeth issues. My gums are continuously sore, bleeding, and swollen.”
Despite seeking help multiple times, Sadie claims her concerns were disregarded by her original dentist, leading her to seek a second opinion. The new dentist reportedly identified defects in the bridge and severe damage to her gums, leaving Sadie feeling betrayed by the initial dental practice.
As the ordeal unfolded in 2022, Sadie’s confidence crumbled, and she now avoids public outings and hides her mouth while speaking or smiling. Consuming even soft foods has become excruciating for her, making her dream of confidently smiling again seem unattainable.
Following a settlement in June 2025 through the Dental Law Partnership, it was revealed that unnecessary procedures were performed on Sadie, including drilling healthy teeth and fitting a faulty bridge, resulting in a compensation payout of £17,000. Despite the resolution, Sadie remains distrustful of UK dentistry, considering seeking treatment abroad for her dental issues.
