David Beckham has revealed his ultimate meal choice, which may not appeal to everyone. The former England captain, now 50 and a prominent businessman, often showcases his lifestyle in the Cotswolds. In a special edition of Country Life magazine that he guest-edited, Beckham discussed his favorite views and his deep connection to rural Britain.
During the magazine feature, Beckham sat down with food writer Tom Parker Bowles, who is also the son of Queen Camilla. Beckham expressed his fondness for a traditional British favorite, stating, “There’s something so nostalgic about mashed potato, liver, bacon, and lots of gravy. It’s one of those British comfort classics that my mum used to make for me and was also my grandad’s favorite dish. If I had to choose my last meal, it would be pie, mash, liquor, and jellied eels.”
Jellied eels, a traditional English dish made by boiling chopped eels in a spicy stock until they set into a jelly when cooled, were also part of Beckham’s chosen meal. Despite being rooted in London’s East End culture, jellied eels are known for their salty flavor and unique wobbly texture.
As a guest editor for Country Life, David Beckham follows in the footsteps of other royal family members who have taken on the same role in the past. In his discussions with the magazine, Beckham praised director Guy Ritchie for igniting his passion for the countryside, reminiscing about their conversations around a fire late into the night.
David Beckham, who is married to Victoria Beckham, fondly recalled the moment when his family first visited their Cotswolds home after renovation, emphasizing the perfection of the setting. The special edition of Country Life, edited by Beckham, will be available from October 22 to October 28. Editor-in-chief Mark Hedges commended Beckham’s attention to detail and predicted that the issue would become a sought-after collectors’ item.
