Sir AP McCoy has provided his assessment on the future plans for Constitution Hill, a declining jumps horse. The victor of the 2023 Champion Hurdle, Constitution Hill had shown immense promise with an unbeaten record in ten races under rules before encountering setbacks at the Cheltenham Festival and Grand National meeting at Aintree.

Despite a disappointing run at the Punchestown Champion Hurdle, Constitution Hill underwent a thorough assessment during the summer, leading trainer Nicky Henderson to believe the horse was primed for a successful return at the Fighting Fifth Hurdle in Newcastle.

Unfortunately, Constitution Hill faced a similar outcome at the event, falling at the second hurdle in a race ultimately won by Golden Ace. Henderson has dismissed the idea of retiring Constitution Hill and is contemplating transitioning the horse to flat racing.

AP McCoy expressed his thoughts on Constitution Hill during an episode of William Hill’s latest Inside Track, acknowledging the horse’s potential but raising concerns about his recent performances. He emphasized the importance of perseverance and the challenges of decision-making in the horse racing industry.

Barry Geraghty, another William Hill ambassador involved in Constitution Hill’s purchase, proposed exploring options for improving the horse’s jumping abilities before considering a switch to flat racing. He suggested potential rehabilitation programs with experts like Yogi Breisner to address the issues faced by Constitution Hill.
