Anthony Joshua, the British heavyweight boxing champion, is facing potentially more severe injuries following a serious car accident in Nigeria. The tragic incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Lagos when Joshua’s black Lexus Jeep collided with a stationary red commercial Sinotruck on Monday morning. While Joshua sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, the crash resulted in the loss of his close friends, Kevin Ayodele and Sina Ghami.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria, the accident involved the two vehicles and five adult males. Two individuals lost their lives, one was injured, and two escaped unharmed. Joshua’s injuries were described as minor, and he received medical attention. The deceased were taken to Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu, and the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division was informed for further investigation.

Despite initial reports of minor injuries, concerns have been raised about the extent of Joshua’s injuries. Sources close to the former heavyweight champion suggest that the damage could be more serious, possibly including rib and knee injuries. A video circulating on social media showed Ayodele playing table tennis with Joshua shortly before the accident, highlighting the close bond between them.

In the wake of the tragedy, condolences poured in from many, with Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn leading tributes to the departed friends. Matchroom Boxing confirmed the passing of personal trainer Latz and strength and conditioning coach Ghami in a statement. Joshua is reported to be in stable condition and under observation in the hospital. The organizations requested privacy for the affected families and friends during this difficult time and refrained from additional comments.
