A man allegedly assaulted and sexually attacked a young woman on a train in Paris, prompting a courageous passenger to come to her rescue upon hearing her distress. The incident, which occurred between Choisy-le-Roi and Villeneuve-le-Roi stations on Line C of the Réseau Express Régional (RER) train on October 16, involved Jhordana Dias, a 26-year-old Brazilian national.
Jhordana, who was alone in the carriage when the man entered just as the doors were closing, expressed her fear upon seeing him approach. The man proceeded to sit next to her and initiated a violent encounter, with Jhordana recounting a harrowing experience of attempted rape and physical assault.
Amid Jhordana’s cries for help, a brave woman in a different carriage intervened by filming the suspect with her phone, causing him to flee the scene. Jhordana immediately contacted her brother, Cicero Junior, who arrived at the station 15 minutes later. Despite police and train security being alerted, the suspect managed to escape, leaving the siblings feeling unsupported by the authorities.
Following the incident, Jhordana underwent a private medical examination to document her injuries, as she feared they would heal before the scheduled forensic assessment. The attacker remains unidentified, shedding light on ongoing safety concerns for women using public transport in France.
Recent statistics from the National Observatory on Violence Against Women revealed that seven in ten women in the Île-de-France region have experienced some form of sexual violence while using public transportation. This incident underscores the need for improved safety measures to protect women in such environments.
