After an extensive search, authorities have discovered a body in the case of a missing British man who disappeared in Spain.
Marc Tulloch Hewson was last seen on September 20 at Los Balcones in Torrevieja, a city in Spain situated about 50 km away from the popular destination of Alicante. Hewson, a 63-year-old expat, had recently left his residence in Orihuela Costa and was admitted to Torrevieja Hospital before going missing after being discharged in the early hours of September 19.
Reports from the Olive Press indicate that Hewson, whose mental state was deteriorating, was spotted the following day in Los Balcones collecting bottles in a carrier bag, barefoot and without any identification.
Authorities recovered a body from the water at the fishing port of Aguilas in Murcia, believed to be that of Hewson. Spanish media confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
Catherine, Marc’s wife, had issued a formal appeal on October 7 for information on his whereabouts and had been actively involved in the search efforts. Tragically, his sister Fiona Crowther, who was assisting in the ground search, was present when Hewson’s body was located.
Expressing gratitude for the community’s support, Fiona stated, “Catherine has a strong support network during this difficult time. Everyone involved in the search did their utmost to locate Marc.”
Kelsey Johnson, another participant in the search, thanked all those who had contributed ideas and kind words, acknowledging the unfortunate outcome of finding Hewson’s body. Despite the sad conclusion, the solidarity shown during the search provided significant comfort to the family and friends of Marc Hewson.
