Berbatov, who later moved to Manchester United from Tottenham for a substantial fee in 2008, recounted the ordeal on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast. He expressed how in Bulgaria, the approach to player transfers was more coercive compared to the typical negotiation process. Despite feeling intimidated and unsure of the situation, Berbatov managed to contact his father for help, eventually avoiding the forced transfer.
Reflecting on the incident, Berbatov emphasized the need to mature quickly and handle challenging situations at a young age in professional football. The experience left a lasting impact on him, highlighting the harsh realities of the football industry.
