A leading chain of pharmacies on the high street has stepped in to rescue 60 branches of a competing firm facing financial collapse.
Allied Pharmacies has assumed control of 60 Jhoots Pharmacies locations, most of which are currently closed. However, Allied has assured the public of its commitment to restoring essential pharmacy services at these sites.
Following this acquisition, Allied will expand its presence to approximately 210 branches in England and Wales, as reported by C+D.
Speaking on the matter, Allied emphasized the vital role community pharmacies play in public health and well-being. They acknowledged the disruption caused by the closures, especially for vulnerable individuals reliant on local healthcare services. The immediate focus is on reinstating pharmaceutical services at the affected branches.
Recently, members of Parliament were informed about concerns regarding the closure of Jhoots pharmacies, potentially leaving communities without access to healthcare services. Allegations surfaced about staff facing payment issues.
The ownership of the pharmacies is divided between brothers Manjit and Sarbjit Jhooty, with approximately 150 Jhoots Pharmacies establishments in the UK. Manjit Jhooty, through his companies Pasab and Jhoots Healthcare, owns over 20 branches, denying any operational problems. Sarbjit Jhooty reportedly owns the remaining 129 locations.
Manjit Jhooty’s spokesperson affirmed the financial stability and operational functionality of the pharmacies under his management, emphasizing their continued provision of essential services to local communities.
Sarbjit Jhooty acknowledged challenges related to workforce and recruitment issues, assuring that steps are being taken to address these concerns. The Mirror has reached out to Jhoots for further comments.
