Atletico Madrid confirmed the signing of Canadian forward Jonathan David on loan from Juventus for the upcoming season. David, a 26-year-old native of Ottawa, played 46 games last season for Juventus, netting eight goals, and had one appearance at the start of the current campaign.
In Madrid, David will vie for playing time alongside Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth, who have been sidelined due to a muscle injury at the beginning of the season. Before joining Juventus in 2025, David showcased his scoring prowess at Lille, scoring 109 goals in 232 matches and winning Ligue 1 and the French Super Cup.
As Canada’s leading men’s scorer with 42 goals, David will also be linking up with his hometown team, Atletico Ottawa, in the Canadian Premier League. Atletico Madrid’s upcoming fixtures include matches against Athletic Club on Saturday and Liverpool in the Champions League on September 9.
