An Israeli airstrike in the central Gaza Strip on Sunday resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians, including a three-year-old child, as confirmed by health officials. The strike, near a bakery in Deir al-Balah, claimed the lives of Tayyem Hamdan, aged 3, and Hussam Nusair, while injuring several others.

Israel’s military stated that the airstrike targeted and eliminated a Hamas militant, Nusair, who was allegedly involved in attacks against Israeli forces and civilians. Hamas refrained from an immediate response to the military’s accusation.

Despite a U.S.-backed ceasefire in October that reduced major conflict in the region, Israeli military operations persist, aiming to prevent attacks from Hamas and other Gaza militant groups. Hamas accuses Israel of breaching the ceasefire agreement and hindering the implementation of a broader plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump to resolve the Gaza conflict, which includes Israeli withdrawals and Hamas disarmament.

Since the ceasefire last October, over 1,300 Palestinians in Gaza have lost their lives, according to health officials in Gaza, while the Israeli military reports four Israeli soldiers killed during the same period.
