Sophia Jensen from Canada secured her first world title at the 2026 ICF Canoe Sprint & Paracanoe World Championships held in Poznań, Poland. The 24-year-old athlete, hailing from Chelsea, Que., emerged victorious in the women’s C1 500-metre final by finishing in two minutes and 0.78 seconds, clinching the gold medal.
Agnes Anna Kiss from Hungary claimed the silver medal with a time of 2:02.80, while the bronze went to Alena Nazdrova from Belarus who finished in 2:04.80.
Aside from Jensen’s triumph, another Canadian athlete, Brianna Hennessy from Ottawa, secured a bronze medal in the KL1 women’s 200m final, completing the race in 54.20 seconds. The gold medal was won by Chilean Paralympic champion Katherinne Wollermann with a time of 52.23 seconds, followed by China’s Maosan Xie who took silver with 53.92 seconds.
