Tributes continue to flow in for a mother of two who tragically lost her life in a plane crash on a road in Prince George last week. The victim, identified as Alex Garneau, was involved in various community activities, notably in sports as an athlete, coach, and volunteer for her children’s teams.

Described as a devoted wife, daughter, sister, and friend, Garneau was affectionately known as the “hockey mom” who made everyone feel included. She played a significant role behind the scenes in organizing and supporting her children’s sports activities, embodying a spirit of positivity and dedication.

Numerous social media posts from organizations she was associated with echoed similar sentiments, highlighting Garneau’s infectious positivity and lasting impact on the sports community. The fundraiser set up to assist her family raised over $100,000 in just two days, demonstrating the outpouring of support for her loved ones.

As the investigation into the incident unfolds, it has been revealed that the plane, a Beech King Air 200, made an emergency landing due to engine failure. The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) has taken charge of the investigation, while the plane has been moved to a secure location for further examination.

The plane, en route to Prince George Airport from Sturdee Airstrip, had eight occupants, including pilots and passengers who escaped unharmed. The aircraft belonged to Sekani Air Ltd., a local charter flight company, which has refrained from commenting on the incident.

Former TSB investigator Bill Yearwood raised questions about the circumstances leading to the emergency landing, emphasizing the complexities of such situations for pilots.
