A powerful tornado struck the village of Pomas in southern France, causing extensive damage to over 300 homes and injuring numerous individuals. Fortunately, no missing persons have been reported in the aftermath of the disaster.

The Aude prefecture confirmed that as of Tuesday morning, approximately 1,400 households remained without electricity. The tornado was captured swirling above the village of Verzeille, located a short distance east of Pomas, late Monday. The destructive path of the tornado resulted in shattered windows in many homes in its trajectory.

Images obtained from social media and verified by Reuters depict the tornado moving through Preixan, situated a few kilometers north of Pomas. The devastation left in the wake of the tornado prompted residents to take stock and commence cleanup efforts.

Witnesses observed a man amidst the debris of a damaged house in Pomas on Tuesday, highlighting the extensive destruction caused by the tornado. The aftermath also included the collapse of the roof of the Saint Julien et Sainte Basilisse church, with debris scattered across the premises.

Additionally, fallen trees in a cemetery and individuals covering damaged building roofs with tarps were among the scenes captured post-tornado. Pedestrians navigated through the area, passing toppled trees and damaged houses, showcasing the widespread impact of the natural disaster on the village of Pomas.
