Topshop is making a comeback to the UK high street today through a newly formed partnership with John Lewis. After closing its standalone stores in 2021, the popular fashion brand is set to be available in all 32 department stores of John Lewis, as well as on its website, with Topman products being offered in seven of the stores.
This launch will feature a curated collection of 130 of Topshop’s most sought-after items, including their iconic denim pieces. The collaboration was set in motion last year following successful pop-up events in various John Lewis stores, as part of John Lewis’ substantial £800 million investment in new brands for the upcoming spring/summer season.
Previously, Topshop and Topman exited UK high streets after their former owner, Arcadia, went into administration in 2021. The brands were subsequently acquired by ASOS, which initially sold Topshop products exclusively online. However, Topshop made a return to London’s Oxford Street last year through a partnership with Liberty department store.
Michelle Wilson, the managing director of Topshop, expressed excitement about the brand’s return, emphasizing the convenience for customers to access their favorite pieces. She highlighted the immediate availability of items like denim and new-season footwear for customers to experience firsthand.
The re-entry of Topshop into high streets across the UK is being celebrated in conjunction with London Fashion Week and will be followed by a series of promotional events, including a takeover of Piccadilly Circus in London and activations in other locations nationwide.
The John Lewis Partnership, which includes Waitrose supermarkets, is actively investing in its fashion offerings to align with its strategic goals. According to Peter Ruis, the managing director of John Lewis, the addition of Topshop as an exclusive brand partner underscores the company’s commitment to becoming a leading fashion destination on the British high street.
In addition to the Topshop collaboration, John Lewis is introducing 14 new fashion, jewelry, and accessory brands as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance its fashion portfolio.
