A renowned jockey narrowly escaped death when her pelvis was severely injured by a falling horse. Sonja Logan faced a brutal assault in 2023 during an attempted car theft, leaving her with multiple injuries just weeks before her wedding. The assailants, who fled when the alarm was raised, remain at large. Recounting the excruciating experience of being trapped under a half-ton racehorse, Logan described it as the most intense pain she had ever endured.

While riding Jumping Power Two, a horse trained by her husband Tommy, Logan was thrown off as the horse panicked. The horse landed on her, crushing her pelvis and causing significant trauma. Following the incident, Logan was swiftly taken to Darwin Royal Hospital and later transferred to Adelaide Royal Hospital for specialized treatment due to the severity of her injuries. She underwent surgery to repair her crushed pelvis, with metal screws and a plate inserted to stabilize the fractures.

Despite the immense pain and physical challenges, Logan is now recovering at home with the aid of a walking frame. She faces a lengthy rehabilitation period estimated at six to eight months, with the possibility of returning to horse riding once she fully heals. Logan, a seasoned jockey with over 500 wins, overcame previous obstacles, including a carjacking incident, to achieve success in the racing industry. However, behind her professional triumphs, she struggled with depression and alcohol abuse.

To combat her mental health issues, Logan turned to competitive bodybuilding, which helped her regain confidence and overcome anxiety. Surrounded by a supportive network, including her devoted husband Tommy, Logan remains optimistic about her recovery and eventual return to the sport she loves. She emphasized the difference in emotions between the accidental horse injury and the deliberate assault she previously endured, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support provided by her loved ones during this challenging period.
