The scam involves fraudulent messages claiming that users’ SIM cards will be deactivated due to supposed failure to accept updated Terms and Conditions. The messages use urgent language and appear to come from an official O2 number, making them harder to spot as fake.

If you have an O2 SIM card, be cautious of a message stating, “O2UK: IMPORTANT: Your SIM Card(s) will be inactive on 04/06/2026, because you have NOT signed our Terms and Conditions. Logon to sign.” The message includes a link leading to a fake website aimed at stealing personal information, which scammers may use to access accounts and compromise passwords.

Customers receiving messages about expiring O2 SIM cards should not click on any links but instead verify through the official O2 platforms or contact the network directly to confirm the message’s authenticity. Murray Mackenzie, Director of Fraud Prevention at Virgin Media O2, emphasized the increasing sophistication of scammers in using convincing tactics to target victims.

Virgin Media O2 is actively working to protect customers from scams by blocking malicious texts and websites and enhancing fraud monitoring on online accounts. They urge everyone to report suspicious messages to 7726 to help shut down scams promptly. O2 advises customers to avoid responding to texts asking for acceptance of new Terms and Conditions or threatening SIM deactivation, as these are likely scams.

Furthermore, customers should be wary of urgent messages pressuring quick actions, avoid trusting unknown numbers, refrain from clicking on unexpected links, and change passwords immediately if they suspect unauthorized access. Staying vigilant and following these precautions can help safeguard against falling victim to such scams.
