A community is in mourning following the tragic death of an eight-year-old boy who collided with an e-bike while riding home from school. The incident occurred on a bike path near the Kawana Way and Sunshine Motorway interchange at Mountain Creek. The boy, identified as Zeke Hondow, collided with a 15-year-old also riding an e-bike. Both were wearing helmets during the collision.
Zeke was quickly taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The Queensland Police have launched an investigation into the crash involving the two e-bikes. The older rider involved in the collision is cooperating with authorities, while the younger boy tragically lost his life.
Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg expressed condolences to the family and emphasized the need for governments to address e-bike safety issues. A GoFundMe page has been created to support Zeke’s family in this challenging time, raising over $6,000 so far.
For those wishing to contribute, donations can be made to the GoFundMe page set up for Zeke’s family. The incident has sparked discussions on the rapid evolution of e-bike technology and the importance of governmental action in improving safety measures.
