Two primary cloud service providers experienced simultaneous outages, leading to significant disruptions for users last night. Both Amazon’s AWS and Microsoft’s Azure faced interruptions on Wednesday evening, affecting various key websites and applications such as Microsoft 365, Outlook, Starbucks, and Asda.

The outages also impacted gamers, with reported issues on Xbox and Minecraft. Users on DownDetector, a website monitoring online outages, reported problems throughout the day with services like Office 365, Minecraft, Xbox Live, Copilot, Costco, Starbucks, and others.

Alaska Airlines acknowledged the outage affecting their systems, including check-in services, while Air New Zealand warned of travel delays due to payment processing and digital boarding pass issues. Notably, websites for New Zealand’s police and parliament were among those affected by the outage.

However, the outages have since been resolved. Microsoft’s Azure outage, which was prolonged, has now concluded. The tech giant’s dashboard indicated no active incidents as of Wednesday evening, with ongoing efforts to fully mitigate the issue by a specific deadline.

Microsoft reassured users of progress in resolving the Azure problem and highlighted the expected timeline for full mitigation. The outage’s impact on various websites and services underscored the reliance on cloud platforms like Azure for critical online operations.
