Energy consumers in the UK may benefit from various assistance programs this winter, such as receiving free items like electric blankets and grants to help cover energy bills. Major energy suppliers in the country are rolling out initiatives to provide additional support to their customers.
While some of these programs are exclusive to customers of specific suppliers, others may be accessible to customers from different suppliers under certain conditions. However, not all schemes will be available to every customer, as suppliers are enforcing strict eligibility criteria to prioritize the most vulnerable individuals in need of assistance.
Several prominent energy suppliers in the UK, including British Gas, OVO, Octopus, and EDF, are offering different support schemes. For instance, the British Gas Energy Trust, funded by British Gas, provides assistance to households in debt on their energy accounts, regardless of their energy provider. The trust offers the Individual and Families Fund, which can grant up to £1,700 to eligible households.
Customers of various suppliers, including OVO, E.ON, Scottish Power, and others, can access support funds through the British Gas Energy Trust. To apply for assistance, individuals need to create an account on the trust’s website and follow the application process.
EDF has introduced its Winter Warmer Shop program, aiming to assist vulnerable customers by offering electrical goods and financial support. The company is also investing in energy efficiency schemes to improve households’ energy usage.
Octopus is providing free electric blankets to its most vulnerable customers, with an opportunity for eligible individuals to receive one this winter. Customers can apply for the free blanket by participating in the Octo Assist scheme, which evaluates their needs and provides appropriate support.
Meanwhile, OVO’s Extra Support Package worth £56 million is now available to customers in need, offering various products like smart sockets and heated throws. Eligibility for this assistance can be checked on OVO’s website.
These initiatives reflect the commitment of energy suppliers to support their customers during the winter season. They aim to alleviate financial burdens and improve energy efficiency for those in need.
