Vodafone has introduced a new method for internet access. The company’s latest Wi-Fi router operates by utilizing a 5G mobile signal, eliminating the need for traditional copper or fiber cables.

This innovative approach is beneficial for households without access to high-speed full fiber connections or for individuals seeking increased flexibility. The router can be easily relocated, making it an excellent choice for renters or students who frequently change residences.

One of the key advantages of this system is its simple installation process. As it operates on Vodafone’s network, there is no requirement for a technician to visit or perform wall installations. Users only need to plug the router into a power source, turn it on, and instantly connect to the internet.

However, it is important to note that this new system offers speeds of up to 150Mbps, which may be adequate for activities like streaming Netflix, sending emails, and working from home, but falls short of the speeds achievable with full fiber connections exceeding 900Mbps.

For reference, downloading a full HD movie through this 5G router would take approximately 8 minutes, compared to just 40 seconds with a fiber gigabit connection.

To assist consumers in making informed decisions, Vodafone has launched an integrated availability checker on their website. By entering their postcode, customers can determine whether full fiber or 5G Broadband offers the fastest speeds in their area.

While Vodafone previously provided internet access through its GigaCube device, this has now been replaced by the new router. Additionally, Three, a part of Vodafone, offers a similar service.

Vodafone’s plans start from £21 per month, while Three’s home broadband is currently priced at £11 for the first nine months. The aim of this new offering is to provide customers with a choice between full fiber where available and powerful 5G Broadband where it is not, catering to those seeking speed, ease, and flexibility in their internet connections.
