Sky has introduced two new smart home plans in the UK that offer internet-connected cameras and cloud recordings starting at just £5 per month. This new offering is poised to compete with popular home security devices like Ring doorbells and Google’s Nest system. According to Sky, customers could save over £100 compared to purchasing a Ring system via Amazon.
The plans come in two options. The first plan includes a Sky Smart Doorbell and Chime for £5 per month with a £15 upfront fee. It provides features such as full HD video recording, instant alerts to your phone, customisable activity zones, two-way talk, and 30 days of cloud video storage.
For those seeking additional security, there is the Smart Home Bundle with Smart Home Plan+. Priced at £8 per month with a £20 upfront fee, this package includes an indoor camera and enhanced app features like scheduled arming and automatic arm modes.
Paul Sweeney, Managing Director of Sky Smart Home, expressed that the aim of these new plans is to make high-quality smart technology more accessible and user-friendly. The packages are designed to offer customers the features they value most in a simple and affordable way, making it effortless to stay connected to home.
Previously, Sky mainly offered Protect Smart Home Insurance, which bundled cameras and alarms. These new plans mark the first time that Sky’s home security devices can be purchased as standalone services.
In comparison, Amazon currently sells the Ring Doorbell with Chime for £119.99, with a £20 discount. Customers interested in cloud recording would also need to subscribe to Ring Protect, starting at £4.99 per month.
