A young child, Otto Acreman, was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer after his symptoms, initially dismissed as a common cold, persisted. Otto, just one year old, started experiencing breathing difficulties and weight gain issues at the beginning of 2025.
Despite multiple visits to the doctor, Otto’s parents, Sophie Reddaway and Paul Acreman, were told that their child likely had a cold. However, when a lump appeared on Otto’s neck, noticed by his aunt Charlotte, medical professionals began to suspect a more serious underlying issue.
Following various tests, including ultrasounds, biopsies, blood tests, and CT scans, Otto was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma in August 2025. He has since undergone several rounds of chemotherapy and a blood transfusion.
Currently, Otto is undergoing further scans to evaluate his body’s response to treatment, with his family eagerly awaiting news on potential future treatment plans. His father, Paul, described the long journey to diagnosis, mentioning the initial dismissal of symptoms by healthcare professionals.
The family’s life has been significantly impacted by Otto’s illness, with Sophie quitting her job and Paul taking time off work for frequent hospital visits. They have faced financial struggles due to medical bills and other expenses, with Paul expressing concerns about their financial situation worsening.
Despite the challenges, Otto has shown remarkable resilience and positivity throughout his treatment, winning the hearts of the hospital staff with his cheerful demeanor. The family is seeking support for travel costs, loss of income, and daily expenses during this difficult time. Donations can be made to their fundraiser to help alleviate their financial burden.
