“Utah Man Sentenced to Life for Wife’s Murder”

After receiving a distress call from a man confessing to shooting his wife, law enforcement was confronted with a gruesome scene. Dave Meyer, aged 69 at the time of the incident, contacted 911 from his residence in Roy, Utah on January 21, 2023, reporting that he had fatally shot his 62-year-old wife, Suzanne Meyer, in the head.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Suzanne’s lifeless body positioned face-down on the bed with her feet touching the floor, suggesting a kneeling posture. She had succumbed to a single gunshot wound, as indicated by the Real Crime Psychology podcast, and a noticeable odor of decomposition lingered in the room.

Meyer, in a composed demeanor during police questioning, disclosed that his once robust and active wife had endured incessant pain following a cycling accident while jogging in Hawaii. The incident, according to Meyer, had left her incapacitated, necessitating spinal surgery with steel pins and continuous pain management.

Allegedly, Suzanne had implored Meyer on multiple occasions to end her suffering. Overwhelmed by her distress, Meyer claimed that he finally acted on her plea by lethally shooting her in the head with a 9mm pistol.

Contrary to Meyer’s account, testimony from witnesses painted a different narrative. Suzanne’s sister, Sandy, refuted claims of her sister’s desire to die, emphasizing Suzanne’s active lifestyle and future plans. Sandy further disclosed distressing details of Meyer’s coercive behavior towards Suzanne, alleging sexual exploitation and threats.

Detectives unraveled additional evidence pointing towards Meyer’s ulterior motives. Revelations of an extramarital affair and accounts of a tumultuous relationship with Suzanne surfaced, casting doubt on Meyer’s purported act of mercy. Subsequently, Meyer accepted a plea deal in March 2023, admitting guilt to murder in exchange for leniency on other charges. On May 10, 2024, Judge Joseph Bean sentenced Meyer to 15 years to life imprisonment at the second district court in Ogden, Utah, where he remains incarcerated at the Utah State Prison.
