Young darting prodigy Mitchell Lawrie, born in 2010, has impressed the darts community with his exceptional skills at the WDF World Championship held at Lakeside recently. Lawrie, at just 15 years old, made history by becoming the youngest player to win at Lakeside, defeating seasoned players like Japan’s Tomoya Maruyama and last year’s semi-finalist Jason Brandon with remarkable ease.

Lawrie’s outstanding performance included hitting five maximums and showcasing impressive checkouts, culminating in a tournament-high average of 97.21.

Responding to Lawrie’s stellar display, fellow player Luke Littler expressed his amazement on the WDF Darts Instagram account, labeling Lawrie as exceptional.

After his victory over Brandon, Lawrie, filled with pride, shared his excitement stating, “I’m absolutely buzzing with myself, to be honest. Facing the number two seed and a strong competitor like Brandon was a challenge I embraced from the start.”

Lawrie’s rapid start in the match, consistently finishing legs in under 15 darts, set the tone for his dominance. Despite narrowly missing out on a perfect leg, Lawrie showcased his skill with a superb 134 checkout, earning praise from the crowd and maintaining his momentum.

As the match progressed and Brandon mounted a comeback, Lawrie acknowledged a brief lapse in focus but quickly regained control to secure his victory. Reflecting on the match, Lawrie admitted, “My start was strong, and though I momentarily lost focus in the last set, Brandon’s resurgence woke me up, allowing me to finish strong.”

When questioned about any nerves during crucial moments, Lawrie dismissed the notion, attributing a missed dart to external distractions rather than internal pressure, emphasizing the support of the enthusiastic crowd throughout the match.
