EE mobile users have been cautioned about a resurgence of a scam text message. Cybersecurity experts at Bitdefender have reported that EE customers are receiving urgent messages threatening the loss of EE reward points unless immediate action is taken.

According to Bitdefender, if users receive messages claiming that a significant number of EE reward points will expire soon, they should be wary as it is likely a scam. Cybercriminals are posing as EE to entice individuals into clicking on malicious links that lead to fake websites, aiming to steal login credentials for financial gain.

The success of this scam lies in its sense of urgency, with scammers hoping that users will act impulsively without thinking. Bitdefender highlighted the tactic of creating a tight deadline to induce panic and emphasized that legitimate EE alerts will only appear within official EE accounts, not in unsolicited texts.

It is crucial to be cautious of any unsolicited messages that pressure for quick action or contain countdowns. Suspicious texts should be forwarded to 7726 and then deleted. This type of scam has targeted EE customers previously, as reported earlier this year when users fell victim to deceptive messages about reward points.

EE has confirmed that it does not run a points program and has shared examples of scam messages circulating, urging users to redeem supposed prizes before an expiration date. EE’s advice is straightforward: never click on unknown links in text messages, avoid replying to suspicious messages, refrain from calling the sender’s number, and never disclose personal or financial information.
