Following their recent wedding, a couple’s honeymoon turned tragic as they encountered a dark twist of events. Eight days post their nuptials, Jordan Linn Graham and Cody Johnson set out on a hike in a national park in Montana, USA. Sadly, it marked Johnson’s final excursion, as reported on July 8, 2013, when Graham, 22, notified authorities of her husband’s disappearance. She explained that Johnson had informed her of going for a drive with a friend via text, which she couldn’t provide as they typically deleted their messages.
According to an FBI affidavit, Graham, 25, mentioned receiving a distressing phone call that led to Johnson leaving their home in a dark vehicle. Subsequently, on July 11, while hiking in Glacier Park, Graham claimed to have stumbled upon her husband’s lifeless body. A helicopter retrieved Johnson’s corpse from a steep vantage point called the Loop on July 12. Allegations arose regarding the circumstances of her finding him, with a park ranger deeming it highly irregular. However, Graham maintained that Johnson had expressed a desire to see that area before his demise, as per Crime Monthly.
Prompted by the family’s request for an inquiry into Johnson’s demise, Graham eventually confessed to fabricating events on July 16. She admitted that amidst a relationship dispute, she pushed Johnson in response to him grabbing her arm, causing him to plummet off the cliff edge.
During a police interview, Graham expressed remorse, stating, “I didn’t realise one push would mean you were over.” At her trial, she disclosed her dissatisfaction early in the marriage, attributing the argument to her unhappiness. Further revelations surfaced from a friend of Graham’s, indicating her reluctance towards the union and her intention to confront Johnson the night of his demise.
A friend of Johnson’s voiced suspicions to ABC News, suggesting Graham’s involvement in his death, with prior concerns about their relationship. Cameron Frederickson revealed his unease and lack of support for Johnson’s decision to propose to Graham, emphasizing the need for reconsideration.
Initially claiming Johnson’s death was accidental, Graham pleaded guilty during her trial, leading to the dismissal of premeditated murder and false statement charges by prosecutors. Sentenced by US District Judge Donald Molloy on March 27, 2014, Graham received a 30-year prison term for second-degree murder, with no possibility of parole in the federal system. Upon release, she will be subject to five years of court supervision.
