A woman working at a daycare has been taken into custody and accused of causing harm to a three-month-old baby by breaking the infant’s arm, according to authorities. The woman, identified as Ashley Karschnick, 32, reportedly lost patience when the baby cried each time she touched her, leading her to forcefully hit the baby against a crib, resulting in the baby’s arm being broken.
Karschnick is facing a felony charge of child abuse for recklessly causing harm in relation to the incident that allegedly occurred at Lily Pad Day Care in Fond du Lac. The police were alerted after the baby girl was admitted to a children’s hospital with a fractured arm. Medical records from Children’s Wisconsin indicated that the baby had sustained a specific type of fracture consistent with physical abuse.
Following the incident, a thorough investigation was conducted, including interviews and surveillance footage analysis. Reports suggest that Karschnick was working in the baby room at the daycare when the alleged abuse transpired. Surveillance footage revealed her escalating frustration throughout the day.
The incident where the baby’s arm was broken reportedly happened around 12:30 p.m., as per information from Express.com. The video allegedly shows Karschnick lifting and forcefully placing the baby into the crib, causing a noticeable impact and sound. Subsequent footage depicts her trying to comfort the baby, who continued to cry loudly.
Despite evidence from the video footage, Karschnick denied the accusations, attributing the rocking of the crib to accidental contact. When questioned about the baby’s cries, she claimed they were a response to the baby’s behavior whenever she touched her.
Karschnick is currently held in custody after posting a bond of $2,500 (£1,916). During a recent court hearing, her defense requested permission for her to be in places where children are present, like supermarkets, but the judge maintained the existing bond conditions in place, as reported by Wbay.
