A woman who previously weighed over 26 stone has shed half of her body weight following gastric sleeve surgery and incorporating Mounjaro into her routine. Angelina Bonsor, a 39-year-old barber and hairdresser, hit her peak weight of 26 stone 4lb (167kg) during the Covid-19 lockdown, where her diet mainly comprised processed foods and takeout meals.
Standing at 5ft 9ins, Angelina believed she could indulge as she awaited gastric sleeve surgery, thinking it would resolve her weight issues. However, after her brother’s sudden passing in 2023 and her son facing bullying due to her weight, she decided to make a change by reducing processed food intake.
In May 2024, Angelina underwent gastric sleeve surgery, a procedure by the NHS involving the removal of around 80% of the stomach to create a smaller pouch. By July 2025, she had dropped to 15 stone 2lb (96kg). Introducing Mounjaro later on helped her reach 13 stone 7lb (86kg), now fitting into size 14 clothing and feeling more self-assured than ever.
Living in Coventry with her husband and two children, Angelina shared her experience of experiencing “thin privilege” post-weight loss. Previously overweight, she attempted various diets like Slimming World but struggled to maintain results. By 2019, she weighed 23 stone (146kg) and peaked at 26 stone 4lb (167kg) during lockdown.
Encouraged by her son’s distress over her weight-related bullying and her brother’s sudden death, Angelina committed to change her lifestyle. Transitioning to healthier eating habits and preparing for gastric sleeve surgery, she followed a liver-reducing diet pre-operation and post-surgery meal plans recommended by healthcare professionals.
To accelerate her progress, she enlisted a personal trainer, engaged in home workouts, and embraced the MyFitnessPal app for tracking nutrition and exercise. Despite hitting a weight loss plateau, incorporating Mounjaro injections helped her resume progress, leading to her current weight of 13 stone 7lb (86kg) and improved confidence.
Angelina now enjoys a balanced diet, engages in regular exercise, and feels physically strong. Her transformation has not only impacted her own life positively but also improved her son’s confidence and interactions. She encourages others on a weight loss journey to take small steps towards healthier choices.
