Mercedes’ head of communications has revealed that team principal Toto Wolff has been in communication with former driver Lewis Hamilton to provide assistance during a demanding season at Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has been struggling to adjust to the team, encountering challenges with the car’s performance and race strategies.
Hamilton’s difficulties were highlighted at the recent Qatar Grand Prix where he failed to advance past Q1 in qualifying and finished outside the points in 12th place despite a comeback effort during the race. Currently placed sixth in the drivers’ standings, Hamilton risks slipping to seventh after the final race in Abu Dhabi.
Expressing frustration over his debut season with Ferrari, Hamilton has described 2025 as his toughest season yet, despite giving his all on and off the track. Recognizing his struggles, Mercedes has extended personal support, with chief communications officer Bradley Lord confirming discussions to aid Hamilton through this trying period, including Wolff accompanying him to race events.
In an interview with CHAMP1, Lord empathized with Hamilton’s challenges, emphasizing the team’s backing for the renowned driver to overcome his setbacks and return stronger. With the season finale in Abu Dhabi approaching, Hamilton aims to secure his sixth-place position in the drivers’ standings, holding 152 points, closely trailed by Kimi Antonelli with 150 points.
This last race will mark Hamilton’s final drive in the current Ferrari model, which has presented numerous challenges. Hamilton will skip the first free practice session, allowing Arthur Leclerc, Charles’ brother, to take his place.
Despite the current somber mood, team principal Fred Vasseur has urged the team to persevere for a comeback to victory. Looking ahead to the 2026 season, Ferrari is focused on finishing the current campaign positively before shifting attention to the upcoming year.
