A tragic incident unfolded in Brooklyn on Saturday night as a New York City firefighter lost his life while battling a massive blaze. Patrick Brady, a dedicated 42-year-old firefighter with 11 years of experience in the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY), suffered a cardiac arrest on the rooftop of a burning building located at 9407 Kings Highway in East Flatbush. The emergency unfolded after residents reported a fire on the sixth floor, prompting an urgent response from first responders.
Despite immediate efforts from fellow firefighters and emergency teams to assist Brady, he was swiftly transported to Brookdale University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, as confirmed by the FDNY. Alongside Brady’s unfortunate demise, a second firefighter and two civilians sustained minor injuries during the operation.
Mayor Eric Adams commended the bravery displayed by firefighters, highlighting the selfless dedication they exhibit in risking their lives to protect others. Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Firefighter Patrick Brady, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to public service and firefighting. The FDNY mourns his passing, acknowledging his exemplary courage and service to the community.
Tragically, Brady becomes the second FDNY member to have lost his life in the line of duty within the past two weeks, as stated by FDNY First Deputy Commissioner Mark Guerra during a press briefing. He is survived by his wife, Kara, and his two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, both serving as FDNY firefighters.
