Motorists faced extensive queues on the M62 as a result of a collision that led to significant 90-minute delays. The incident occurred on the eastbound side of the motorway near Warrington in Cheshire, prompting the closure of lanes three and four between junction eight for Burtonwood and junction nine for Warrington. National Highways reported a ‘multi-vehicle collision,’ with emergency crews responding to the scene.
While traffic congestion gradually improved following the crash, delays persisted for 90 minutes even after all lanes were reopened. Drivers were advised to allocate extra time for their morning travels. Emergency services had been on-site before 9am, addressing the situation between junction eight and nine.
Camera footage revealed traffic extending back to J6 on the M62, although the situation was showing signs of improvement. However, commuters were cautioned to anticipate further hold-ups. Presently, delays exceed an hour, with substantial queues forming near the closure area.
A statement by National Highways on social media highlighted the extended delays and lane closures due to the collision. They emphasized the ongoing presence of emergency services and recommended allowing for ample travel time.
