Many individuals in Wales are experiencing a sense of continued hardship in their daily lives.

Even with diligent efforts, concerns about financial obligations persist, and the decline of local businesses raises worries about job prospects for residents. This situation is deemed unjust, and as the First Minister, I am committed to addressing this reality with transparency.

Following a period of austerity and budget reductions under the Tory government, significant investments have been channeled into public services by our administration. While essential services have been safeguarded, it is acknowledged that progress may not be perceived as swift enough by numerous households. Hence, our resolve is to persist in our efforts to assure families that remaining steadfast with us will yield tangible benefits.

Wales is at a critical juncture, transitioning from merely managing imposed Tory cuts to actively shaping its own destiny. The groundwork laid over 25 years of devolution, focusing on enhancing skills, infrastructure, and confidence, is beginning to yield positive outcomes.

Previously unexplored investment opportunities are emerging, indicating the potential for a surge in job creation across Wales. Drawing from my private sector experience, I understand the crucial role of stability, infrastructure, and prioritizing people, principles that guide my governance approach.

Significant developments are already visible, with major energy projects in the north, an AI growth zone in the south, advanced manufacturing in the east, and renewable energy initiatives along the western coast. Since assuming office as First Minister, Wales has attracted £16 billion in business investments, coinciding with the announcement of the highly successful Wales Investment Summit. These figures translate into tangible benefits for Welsh communities in the form of job opportunities, apprenticeships, and renewed optimism.

However, economic growth alone is insufficient. A fair future encompasses accessible healthcare services, localized care facilities, reduced wait times, enhanced public safety, and youth empowerment through training and employment opportunities within Wales. It also entails revitalized town centers, alongside the preservation and promotion of Welsh culture and language.

The political landscape in Wales presents a clear choice. While some parties advocate for “change,” they lack substantive plans for governance and funding. Others, such as Reform, propagate discontent, offering policies that jeopardize vital services.

Unlike Reform, Welsh Labour adopts a distinct approach, emphasizing tangible actions over rhetoric. Our policies, including free prescriptions, universal free school meals, and fair wages for care workers, demonstrate our commitment to meaningful change.

This election is not a debate between change and continuity but a choice between advancing the current positive trajectory, post-austerity era, or risking the progress achieved. With a new cadre of candidates and a clear vision, Welsh Labour is prepared to lead Wales into a fair and prosperous future.
